About Us
Metta Journeys’ philanthropic travel immerses donors in the onsite work of carefully selected partner organizations and the communities they serve. Our programs support our nonprofit partners, show donors how their money is being spent, and foster long-lasting personal connections across geographic and cultural boundaries.
On every trip, we offer:
- personal engagement with the staff and clients of our partner organization
- exclusive and informative meetings with local civic and business leaders
- visits to important local sites of historic and/or cultural interest
- excellent guides, drivers and translators
- expert assistance in trip preparation
- first-rate accommodation
On selected trips we include expertly taught yoga as a way of becoming more engaged with our surroundings, connecting with each other as human beings, and cultivating a sense of metta or "goodwill". The physical practice of yoga helps us to stay rejuvenated and supple, which is especially important when we find ourselves on long plane rides and traveling in countries where the local living conditions are different than what we are used to. We also believe that practicing yoga opens us up to a deeper awareness of ourselves and gives us better clarity of mind.
I am very happy that Metta Journeys has helped me discover another side to life— travel that truly broadens the mind and can change one's perspective in a way that will last beyond just a few days after the trip.

- We believe that travel is a powerful stimulant that opens the heart and mind to others.
- We believe that all people, at the deepest level, want the same things: to be able to live their lives with dignity, to be respected by others, and to leave the world a better place for future generations.
- We believe that becoming invested in someone else's life creates a web of interconnectivity, which can be the seed for political change.
- We believe that everyone has skills and resources that they can offer.
- We believe that business can be a positive force in the world, creating jobs, services, and products that benefit individuals, communities, and society.
I felt cracked wide open by this experience. I was amazed at the beauty of Rwanda and its people, and found a deeper awareness of inner tranquility in my yoga practice.

What Our Name Means
Metta translates to "loving kindness" or "goodwill" in the ancient Indian language of Pali, a language in which the Buddhist texts were written. To cultivate a feeling of metta in your heart is to cultivate a love for yourself and for all beings in the world. Our trips are designed and enacted in the spirit of metta.
My body is here, but my heart is still in Rwanda. .
