About Us
Chandra Easton
Co-Founder, Senior Yoga Teacher
Chandra Easton blends the receptive style of yin yoga with more active, dynamic forms to prepare the body and mind for meditation. Chandra feels that yoga, while
being a wonderful tool for cultivating health, is essentially preparation for
the transformative insights gained through meditation. In 1996, her strong interest
in meditation led her to India to study Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan language
at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, founded by H. H. the
Dalai Lama. Later, she received her degree from the Religious Studies Department
at UC Santa Barbara where she worked on the translation of Tibetan Buddhist texts
on meditation. Chandra's primary Buddhist teachers are H.H. Dalai Lama, Thich
Nhat Hanh, Tsultrim Allione, and B. Alan Wallace. Her primary Yoga teachers are
Sarah Powers and Zhander Remete. In 2007, Chandra co-founded Metta Journeys, a
service oriented organization that offers yoga retreats internationally to help
women and children in developing countries. She lives in Berkeley, CA, with her
husband and daughter where she attends graduate school. Visit www.shunyatayoga.com to learn more and to view her complete schedule.

21 Under 40: These talented young teachers are shaping the future of yoga
"In the Buddhist tradition we practice for the benefit of others," Chandra Easton says. "Yes, I can be happy and better myself on this path, but I can also be of service." Service is one of the themes that shapes Easton's work as a yoga and meditation teacher.

After the birth of her daughter seven years ago, cover model Chandra Easton switched paths, from student of comparative religions to teacher of yoga and meditation. “In Tibet, they say childbirth is the closest one comes to death,” says Easton. “It was like going through the dying process to birth my daughter and rebirth myself.” Empowered by motherhood and encouraged by her husband, yoga teacher and Ayurvedic consultant Scott Blossom, Easton earned her teaching credentials through Integrative Yoga Therapy and the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. |
