Bosnia and Croatia 2009: Rebuild and Restore

Most people have only read about Bosnia and Croatia—the colorful and historic European countries that were deeply affected by the Balkan wars of the '90s. Despite the devastation these countries have experienced, the brave survivors are now rebuilding their lives and communities, and women are playing an increasingly important role. Metta Journeys wants to take you to these lands, connect you to the people, and show you how you can be a part of this rebirth.

This one-week Rebuild and Restore trip, which benefits Women for Women International (WFWI), starts in Sarajevo, the great multicultural capital city of Bosnia. Here, you'll see the city, experience cultural immersion, meet with local leaders, and witness the amazing ways that people are rebuilding their lives. The journey continues on to Dubrovnik in Croatia, where you'll view sites of cultural importance that were damaged in the war, and see the innovative ways in which the people of the city are restoring them. You'll also have an opportunity to restore yourself with a day cruise to the beautiful nearby Elaphite Islands, where you can absorb the experiences you've had and rejuvenate your body and soul.

When

September 20-27, 2009

About the Cause

For this trip, Metta Journeys is partnering with Women for Women International (WFWI), an organization that provides women survivors of war with the tools and finances needed to rebuild their lives. Metta Journeys trip participants will have the opportunity to sponsor (and then meet) a WFWI Bosnian woman (a "sister"). In addition, participants will journey through Bosnia and Croatia, gaining a better understanding of the region and forming lasting relationships with the people there.
