Our Journeys
Upcoming trips

Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia
May 9 - 16 2010
Metta Journeys returns to Bosnia and Croatia in 2010 to continue our support for the amazing work of Women for Women International (WfWI).
Our one-week trip starts in the great multi-cultural city of Sarajevo, where the staff of WfWI will introduce you to their program. You’ll participate in inductions, graduations and classes and visit graduates at their homes and businesses. Traveling into the countryside to visit survivors of the wars and see how they are rebuilding their lives, you’ll learn about the past and present of this intriguing country. You’ll travel overland to Dubrovnik by way of Mostar, the largest and most important city in Herzegovina. You'll have an opportunity to restore yourself with a day cruise to the beautiful Elaphite Islands, during which you can absorb the experiences you've had and rejuvenate your body and soul.

About the Cause
This Metta Journeys' trip supports Women for Women International, which provides women survivors of war with the tools and finances needed to rebuild their lives. WfWI got its start in Bosnia in 1993, when founder Zainab Salbi visited rape camp victims during the Balkan Wars.
Metta Journeys trip participants will have the opportunity to sponsor (and then meet) a Bosnian "sister". In addition, participants will journey through Bosnia and Croatia, gaining a better understanding of the region and forming lasting relationships with the people there.
What You'll Do
On this trip, you will:
- meet the woman you sponsor through the WfWI program
- laugh, dance and cry with the local staff of WfWI
- attend classes, induction and graduation ceremonies for WFWI women
- participate in first-hand discussions of life in Bosnia today with survivors of the Balkan Wars
- tour the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial, the site of the infamous Srebrenica Gendercide in which thousands of men and boys were killed
- visit the historical and religious buildings of Sarajevo and Dubrovnik
- shop at craft and jewelry markets
- enjoy a walking tour and lunch in the historic city of Mostar
- take a cruise to the dense pine forests, fisherman villages, and sandy beaches of the picturesque Elaphite Islands
- stay at first-rate accommodations with well-appointed and modern facilities
