Rwanda June 12-19 2010* fabrics

2010 marks the three year anniversary of Metta Journeys’ inaugural trip to benefit Women for Women International (WfWI) in Rwanda. Rwanda is on a fast-track to development, and our partner, WfWI, is an important contributor to the substantial changes we've noticed since our first visit in 2008. WfWI mobilizes women to change their lives through a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs of women in conflict and post-conflict environments. Join us and become involved with their program as they (and you) help previously under-served women become active members of their communities and learn income-generating
skills to support themselves and their families.

About the Trip

On this journey, you will assist the women of Rwanda, form lifelong connections with Rwandans and fellow travelers, and experience the deep satisfaction that comes from reaching outsidefabrics of yourself and becoming involved with others. You will also experience the beauty of Rwanda, land of a thousand hills, with its verdant lowlands and lush mountain ranges which are home to some of the few remaining families of mountain gorillas.

One of the highlights of our trips last year was visiting a recently established agricultural co-op where the women, not yet graduates of the year-long WfWI program, were anticipating their second harvest. The recently elected co-op president spoke to us at length about their goals: purchasing their own land, building a meeting house and helping to lift other women out of poverty. Their commitment and drive were infectious and an incredible inspiration.

On the June 12-19 2010 trip, we welcome travelers 16 years of age (the minimum age for gorilla trekking) and older. Travelers under 21 must be accompanied by their parents.

What You'll Do:

In our week in Rwanda, you will:

  • meet the Rwandan woman you may choose to sponsor through our trip
  • attend classes, induction ceremonies, and graduation ceremonies with WFWI participants
  • meet WFWI staff, as well as Rwandan business and civic leaders
  • see the country with first-rate guides and translators
  • reflect on the Rwandan genocide through visits to the Kigali Memorial Center and other memorial sites
  • visit Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas
  • if you choose, practice yoga under the guidance of a skilled teacher
  • stay in first-class accommodation

fabricsWhat It Costs:

The cost of this trip is $6495** (single occupancy***), plus a required $1000 donation to WFWI. To see why we require this donation, please click here.

Our journeys are limited to 20 participants, so book now! Contact us to get more information or reserve your spot.

*The growing outpouring of support for WfWI has resulted in a greatly increased number of sponsorships and the concomitant need to recruit and train additional WfWI staff. This is great news; however, it means that we cannot confirm additional dates to visit Women for Women International's operations in Rwanda in 2010.

If you are interested in being one of the first to learn about our 2011 trips before they are announced to the public, email us now by clicking here.

**Price includes:
Lodging, land transportation, professional guiding, memorial entry fees, taxes, and most meals.
Price does not include:
International airfare, insurance (medical and evacuation insurance strongly recommended), soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, gratuities, and items outside of the itinerary.

***Please note: Most of our travelers prefer single occupancy rooms due to the very full schedule and emotional nature of our journeys, with their interaction of people from different cultures, geographies and circumstances. Should you desire to share a room, you are responsible for finding a roommate; Metta Journeys does not provide a matching service. Any desired changes to your rooming status intra-trip are often difficult and cannot be guaranteed.
